The day was almost over. One could almost feel the last of the day fleeting away with the sun. Zoe looked up at the orange ball that filled the sky. It was almost within touching distance. What I wouldn't give to be able to touch that. Zoe thought to herself. She knew that was so far fetched that it was ridiculous.
Zoe walked toward the hiking trail. She was in a very bad need of fresh air. This was the prefect time of day for getting fresh air too. What better time to get it than during one of the moments the world let its guard down.
Zoe soon found the trail that she had been looking for. Even though it was a beautiful afternoon not many people were outside. This fact was both a blessing and a letdown. This would be great because she could sort through a few things but that would also mean that she is out her alone. Which might not be the smartest of ideas.
Zoe started walking down the trail. She looked at the trees. She watched the setting sun glisten off of the branches and leaves. The golden sunlight hitting the green in the trees casting slight shadows onto the ground. Just then she thought she heard a sound behind her. She wasn't very sure if she wanted to turn around to see what or who it was or if she was better off ignoring it all together. Finally she decided to check it out.

Whisper was walking around Providence campus, trying to find something to do. She was still upset over her parents sending her here, and that she was stuck in Dullsville, USA. She needed to clear her head. Walking along aimlessly she spotted a nice enough looking hiking trail, and decided to try it out. She thought that it was a great place to be alone, or maybe find a little adventure.
"Wow, its actually quite beautiful here", she stated in shock as she looked around at the unfolding scene. There were huge Oak, and Maple trees lining the edges of the trails. There were what seemed like fields of wildflowers growing every which way she looked. There was moss covering the tree trunks, and birds flying around everywhere.
Whisper was so distracted that she did not notice a girl, a blond girl, walking about 50 feet in front of her. She was about to yell a brief hello when she stepped on and snapped a twig. All well she thought, there goes your smooth entrance, and walked forward to introduce herself.

Zoe looked around for the source of the sound she had heard. She really should have known better than walking around the grounds alone. She had no idea where she was. Nor anyone around. So she had no way of knowing who to stay away from and who were ok to hang out with. Being new to Providence sure did put a damper on her adventurous side. Sighing she continued to look for the source.
Zoe stepped off the trail. Almost as if she was trying to hide amongst the trees that lined the trail. The birds chirped in song high in the trees, unknowing of anything going on around them. It wasn't long before Zoe noticed someone that looked to be walking in the same direction as she was. The girl look to be about her age, but Zoe wasn't really sure.
Just then, almost the same time that Zoe had seen her the girl took a step forward. Zoe was like, ok, this girl wasn't trying to give me a heart attack. Thinking that to herself. Which brought a small smile, but nothing real big, to her lips. In return, she took a small step forward. Waiting for the girl to make the next move.

As Whisper made her way toward the blond girl she had previously spotted, when she noticed her step off the trail, almost like the was trying to hide, a pathetic attempt, if you asked her. She rolled her eyes and continued forward, as the girl changed her mid yet again, she stepped back onto the trail and and smiled.
She looked younger than the tall brunette walking toward her but, a friend was a friend. Someone to talk to was Whisper really needed right now, she just prayed in the back of her head, that the sweet looking girl had a little bit a while streak behind the angelic face, and innocent smile she now had plastered on her face.
Whisper was now 10 feet from her and was about to say hello, when the girl look scared. Whisper backed off a little, and tried to look less abrasive. She put a big, toothy smile on her face and she extended her hand, "hello, I'm Whisper, I just arrived here. I am 15 years old, and in the house of Renard." "I did not mean to scare you back there, I hope I didn't at least." She again put a smile on her face and waited for he girl to respond.

Finally after several minutes of not being sure, Zoe took another brave step forward. She could met the other girl about half way. Or somewhat close to it at least. It was, after all, the only way to meet others around here. Holding a smile on her face, inviting, Zoe faced the brunette and waited.
The birds continued to chirp away in the tops of tall trees. Oblivious to the exchange that was about to happen down below them. Many things flew through Zoe's mind. Who was this girl, what would she be like, would she be rude or not. So many questions. But only taking that extra step would answer it.
Finally The girl spoke. Whisper, that was a different name, but then again so was Zoe. "Hi. I'm Zoe." Zoe told her. Slowly she processed the information Whisper had given her She was the same age as Zoe, interesting and new. "That's interesting. I'm new too. But I'm in Pingouln. Nice to meet you. It's ok. I just didn't realize anyone else was out here." Zoe told her with a smile.

Normally, Whisper did not socialize with a girl of this variety, the type that at first glance look like a goody-goody, someone who would squeal on her if she ever did anything wrong. But she decided to give this girl a chance, after all he was probably thinking she looked like trouble and all the things that can with it.
There was something about...Zoe, she had to think about it for a minute, she was horrible with name, maybe she would give her a nick-name. The petite blond look sweet and innocent, she looked lost just like her. Maybe they could learn from each other, she could help Whisper stay out of trouble and, whisper in return could teach her to let her wild side out.
Smiling her toothy smile, Whisper stated "I was just looking for something to do. It is so different from home, oh that is Paris by the way,..." Whisper babbled and they kept walking along the trail. "I hate it here already, It is so quiet and there is nothing I can sink my nails into here," as she said this, she demonstrated the action by making catlike fingers in the direction of Zoe. She immediately stopped and apologized, for it looked like she had scared her with her previous action. "Look at me, babbling away, Where are you from Zoe? Do you have brothers, or sisters?" She looked at the girl ans smiled as she started to answer.

Allowing her mind to wonder. What kind of person was Whisper. Would they really get along. Since they were both outside wondering around like two lost puppies, that was actually a very good sign. It showed that they did have something in common. Even though they just met. Zoe only worried that people would judge her for being like so many other blondes. She has her moments but is hugely different than what people give her credit for.
Zoe listened as Whisper talked. She could only imagine what Paris was like. Providence looked just like home. Shoot she only grew up a couple hours away. Canada was still her home. Zoe shrugged a little. "This is kind of all I have ever known. I grew up only a few hours away." Zoe said in response to Whisper's comment on Paris. "What is Paris like? This is the furthest I have even been from my mother."
The cat fingers started Zoe. But that was something that couldn't be avoided. But when Whisper apologized and asked about herself, Zoe smiled. Just the opening Zoe had been wanting. "Well not really a lot to tell. I grew up in a small town in Alberta Canada called Alderson. Nothing much there. It's really a ghost town. As for siblings. Well, as far as I know, no I'm an only child. But then again my father left us just before I turned 3. So there is no telling." Zoe turned to see Whisper reactions to her little story.

Continuing on their little walk, Whisper listened as Zoe said she only grown up a few hours from here, She had never been farther than this from home? "Wow" Whisper stated in shock that make her stop walking. Whisper thought about all the places she had been in her short 15 years. She had been to most every place in Europe, from Scotland to Germany, From Greece, to Egypt. She could not imagine being stuck in one place her whole life. She thought to herself and decided she would surely go insane.
When Zoe asked what Paris was like Whisper was just going to say, "its just home", but thought since the girl had never really been away from home she would give some detail. "Paris is beautiful. When you walk down the street, everywhere you look is a little Cafe, or street vendor. There are shops, and crowded streets, the air smells like fresh bread, and there are always tourist everywhere. You meet a lot of interesting people, that for sure."
When Zoe, stated that her father had left her, and her mother before she was three, her mouth fell open. She just stood there and gawked at Zoe. "I am so sorry" She did not know what to say to someone like this. "I would like to hear more though, that is if you feel like talking about it", she said timidly, and waited for Zoe's story to begin.

Walking down the small walking trial didn't seemed so much as a challenge now. Now Zoe was walking with someone. It seemed nice. As she talked about her home, she couldn't help but feel a small tinge of homesickness. Her mother was there alone. It was never safe for them to go back to live when her mother's family after Zoe's father left. Zoe's magic saw to that. So Zoe and her mother continued to live in the quiet ghost town.
Zoe waited to hear what Paris was like. Seeing that she had stayed in one spot until coming to Providence she really wondered what the world was like. She listened and pictured the streets, the shops, even the smells. "Oh, my. That sounds so very interesting. Maybe one day I will be able to see something like that. My home is nothing exciting like that." Paris sounded so lovely. So welcoming. One day, Zoe promised herself, one day.
Whisper's reaction to the news of her father was just like so many others. It brought a small laugh from Zoe. "It's ok. Don't worry. I get that a lot. But I'm use to it by now." Zoe turned back to look at the trees. She wanted to know more. What else could Zoe say. "Well, my mother is a muggle. She didn't know anything about Magic until I was born. That was part of the problem that caused the spilt. She always told me, it was never my fault but I still couldn't help but feel like it was. On some level at least. We stayed in the ghost town, it was easier for mother to hide my magic. I started going outdoors more. Spending most of my days and a lot of nights outside. I love nature and animals. It's almost as if I can understand them. When I'm not outside, I'm inside drawing." That was pretty much Zoe in a nut shell.

The trail was getting darker. Light was fading fast. Whisper wanted to keep walking and talking to Zoe, but she knew that the trail would be dark soon and they would have to head back to their dorms. Maybe they could meet up in one or the others dorm, after dinner. Whisper only hoped that Zoe felt as comfortable with her as Whisper did with Zoe. She had no friends here, and this was a start to what, Whisper wished would be a long lasting friendship. She would never tell anyone that of course, she had to keep at least, a little bit of her hard edge.
All the while Whisper was thinking, she was also listening to Zoe's story. She could tell that by asking Zoe about her home she missed it dearly. "You don't have to talk about it anymore, if you do not wish to", she said softly looking at the trail.
"Oh, and while I am thinking about it, if your mother would be ok with it, I would love to take you on a tour of Paris. I will make all the arrangements, so money, is not an issue. Everyone needs to get out and explore the world, and Paris is a great start." Whisper had a tendency to do this, she would offer, or suggest something too huge for the current time line, and Immediately after she made her offer, she wished she had not. Zoe was going to think she was nuts, offering such a thing after knowing her a grand total of what, 15 minutes? Even so there was something about this girl that Whisper was drawn to, maybe her innocents, she did not know, but while all these thoughts were swirling through her head, Whisper turned and looked at Zoe, waiting for the reaction most people had to her outrageous behavior, she waited for Zoe to high tail it away from her, and out of her life.

Dim light cast shadows onto the trail that Zoe and Whisper were walking on. It wouldn't be too long before night would fall around not only two on the trail but everything around them. Being in an unfamiliar place like this after dark, make her a little nervous. Zoe began to play with a strand of her long blonde hair. Some thought it was childish to play with ones hair but this helped to calm Zoe down. It took a moment before she realized that Whisper was still there and looking at Zoe. Quickly she let go of her hair and let her hand fall.
Whisper was the first person Zoe had actually spoken to. After her move that is. Of course she had spoken to all those in charge of things. Those who made the arrangement for her to come here. But as far as someone her age, this was the first person. Zoe couldn't help but be slightly excited. Could this be the beginning of a friendship. She really hoped that they could possibly become good friends. There was something about this girl that made Zoe want to be around her more. Not wanting to sound too immature, Zoe kept that thought to herself.
Soon the conversation moved from around Zoe and she was a little thankful for that. It was hard for her to talk about herself, especially about her family. This included talking to anyone about them. That was a part that she tended to keep to herself. So she was really relieved when Whisper said that she didn't have to talk about it. "But it's ok. I don't really talk about them much. So, well, you understand." Zoe didn't know what to say, not really.
Then the biggest surprised that could have come happened. Had Zoe heard Whisper right. Had she just invited her to Paris. Zoe knew that surprise was the main emotion on her face. But hoped that it wouldn't be taken the wrong way. "Really, you want to take me on a trip to Paris. That would be great. I will run it by mother next time I speak with her." This was wonderful to hear. Zoe had never been anywhere other than her hometown and now Providence. Seeing something else would be a wonderful change and experience. A smile come to fill Zoe's mouth.

The smile that came to Zoe's face, when Whisper mentioned Paris, was worth it. Whisper was very surprised, pleasantly surprised that Zoe did not think she was a crazy person. Or at least she did not seem to think so. Whisper gave Zoe her best smile, toothy and all, and exhaled in relief. She was relaxing, and feeling more comfortable around Zoe, more comfortable than she had ever been around someone she just met. She prayed in the back of her mind that Zoe was someone she could count on, that she would be the friend Whisper had always needed.
Turning her attention to the atmosphere around them, Whisper was getting a little squirmy, the sun was almost down, and there was little light on the trail, she looked around, "Wow the tree's look even more beautiful when the sun is setting". Whisper was never one for nature, but she was just so taken aback she had to say something. "well it is almost all dark now, and I do not know how safe it is out here at night, maybe we should meet up at the dorms later, maybe after we grab some dinner?"
She really wanted to continue their conversation, she wanted to know more about Zoe, and her life growing up, it sounded the exact opposite of what She had gone through. She hoped Zoe would want to keep talking to her, get to know a little more about her as well. Putting all of this out of her mind, she looked at her and said "well, what do you think"?

Zoe smiled when she saw that Whisper smiled back. That was good. She let out a sigh. This was a wonderful way to start a friendship. Just the thing Zoe had been wanting. It was so lonely here. Since she didn't know many people, she tended to stay to herself. Finally she would be able to possibly hang out with someone. She only hoped that this person wouldn't end up being someone she regretted being around. Zoe looked back at Whisper. There was something about her that made Zoe doubt she would regret being around her. This brought another small smile.
Looking in the direction that seemed to have caught Whisper's attention, Zoe saw what she had been looking at. The trees really did. "Yea, my two favorite times to come here is at sunrise and sunset. It is always so magical to watch the world welcome and extinguish the day. It's amazing." Zoe thought to herself. Now she did sound like a weirdo. But that was Zoe, she loved being outdoors. Any excuse to be outside was a blessing. But Whisper had a point. It was getting darker and since it seemed that neither knew that much about the grounds after dark. Maybe it would be a better idea to go inside. "Yea. I think you are right." She let out a sigh and turned back to face where she had started out.
The idea of having someone to hang out with sounded like a wonderful idea. But she didn't want to sound over excited about it, so she just sort of stood there for a moment. She was really enjoying herself and wanted to talk with Whisper more. "You know, that sounds like a great idea. I think it would be good." Zoe said with a smile.
