Crisp morning air filled the lungs of the blond girl that was walking down the hiking trail. Early morning was her favorite time of the entire day. All the snow had fallen over night covering the ground and trees in a fresh layer of white powder. Looking down at the watch her aunt gave her for a birthday present, Cassie realized it was already 8 am. She had been walking for two hours completely lost for time. Glancing around her she realized she honestly did not know where she was. The trail would eventually loop back around to the front that much she knew but she had never ventured so far down by herself.
Breathing deep Cassie tried hard not to panic. She was afraid to move any further and so she could not decide whether she should continue forward or try to retrace her steps. Since her mind had been filled with other things, Cassie did not remember how she got where she was but two hours of walking had her so out of her element that she was now scared. Her wand was back in her dorm and she frowned as she realized that she had no way to defend herself or to signal for help.

Jacob had rushed outside that morning when he heard there was snow on the ground. He couldn't want to step in the snow, throw a few snowballs, make a snow wolf, ya know, normal stuff. He didn't even change when he walked out of his dorm, he stayed in his sweat pants and no shirt, what was the point of changing clothes if he didn't plan on staying in his human form? He ran out side, almost bouncing, he felt the frigid air rush to his skin and into his lungs as he breathed it in. "Ahhh.....love winter." He smiled and ran out into the snow morphing into his wolf form as he ran. He figured he would take it in, but forgot he was only slightly bigger then the fall of snow. He had to hop in the snow to move around in some spots. "Snow, snow, snow, I love the snow." He sang in his head as he bounced around reaching the opposite end of the hiking trail.
Most people weren't fond of having a wolf come up behind them so he decided to go the other way. He continued to sing in his head and he hopped around, hopping into a deeper pile then he had thought, covering him completely. He popped his head up from the snow, white covering his brown and black face. He shook his head to get rid of it and licked his nose, he looked around and noticed a girl standing not far from him. His ears perked up when he noticed she looked lost. He twitched his ears, knowing she would see it, given he was the only dark thing around.

Cassie looked around her as she once again tried to figure out where she was and how to get back. White surrounded her as she sighed in defeat and scanned the distance once more. Brown ears stuck out from one of the drifts near here but Cassie refused to show any fear. Not knowing what was going to happen she took a deep breath and thingyed her head to the side. Hello? Who is out there? Twirling in a circle her blond ringlets swung freely around her face creating a golden halo. It was taking all her will power not to start crying because of her situation. That would make her weak, make others loose all respect for her. Closing her eyes a moment Cassie tried to take a steadying breath.
Whatever was in the snowbank Cassie was prepared. She may not be able to always count on her animagus form but if she was in danger it would come through in a pinch. Feeling herself worrying over nothing Cassie once again tried to keep herself calm.

Jacob saw her noticed him and twitched his ears again and thought he would have a little fun for a change. Normally he doesn't try to scare girls, but hey everyone once in a while they have to have some real thrill in there life. He crouched down, his muscles tightening as he sprang forward, hopping again, now making a b-line towards Cassie. He let out a low growl as he hopped to make it sound a bit more serious. Hop, hop, hop, hop, hop. He got closer to her and let the growl get louder so she could hear it better and stopped a few feet from her and spread his legs and snarled at her, his tail sticking straight up and his fur on end. Jacob was such a meanie sometimes, but oh how much fun he was having. He wouldn't lead her on too long though, she might pass out or something, and he didn't feel like dragging her back with all dead weight.

As the whiteness around her reflected the early morning sun Cassie tried hard to push away the panic. She was a Demarius, they had no fear, but here in this town she was simply Cassie Clark. She was a girl who was raised by her aunt, a girl that could turn herself into a panther at will. The sound of a snarl made Cassie stop her thoughts and look at the wolf that was approaching her. She could see more brown fur as he approached her. Her instincts to protect herself rose from deep within and she could feel the power build.
Facing off against the other animal Cassie felt herself change. The change was quick but effective as her blond hair quickly became sleek black fur as the cat stared down at the dog. Opening her mouth slightly, teeth barred Cassie hissed a warning threat to the wolf. Cassie knew that she could never hurt anyone even in her animagus form but she was a panther and sometimes the beast's nature took over. The fur on the back of her neck was standing up as she tried to gauge whether this other animal was a foe.
Walking forward some, still cautious, Cassie sniffed the air as she tried to smell the air around her. She wanted to get the scent of the wolf knowing that it would tell her if he was friend or foe. Tilting her head to the side she relaxed her posture even more as she tried to look friendly. To any other observer it would seem that wolf had found a panther but she knew otherwise. Cassie wanted to make a friend not an enemy but the ball was now in the others court.

Jacob instantly stopped his games as she changed into this cat. He was shocked, he had not expected her to turn into an animal like him, he wanted to have some fun, but ended up being snarled back at. She hissed at him, her teeth bigger then his own, panthers were known to be bigger then wolves, and even a shapeshifter is slightly bigger then a normal animal, still not big enough. The girl sniffed the air and tiled her head, like she was curious. He noticed her demeanor changed, she wanted to make nice not fight. Jacob took this opportunity to sit down in the snow and look as cute and friendly as he could as well. Unfortunately the snow he sat in was deeper then he thought and he sunk into the snow, his rear end deep in snow. His front legs bent to his chest and his back legs sticking out of the snow. To make matters worse, weak snow feel onto his head, making him look like an arctic wolf in the face. He sneezed and rubbed his nose to get the cold feeling off.

Watching the wolf falter some and land hard and deep in the snow was enough to make Cassie burst out laughing. Closing her eyes and concentrating, she forced herself to change back into her human form. It was obvious the wolf was not going to harm her and she had merely jumped to conclusions. Feeling the power of the animagus flow away from her, Cassie felt her form change. Mostly Cassie loved changing in the panther that was her animagus form but there were times when she loved being human too. As the form faded from her, Cassie kept her eyes on the wolf in front of her.
Is he dangerous? He did not seem so when I tested the air but then again some people are a master of deception. Who is he/she? Is it just a normal wolf? Looking around her Cassie realized that she too was now standing in the snow banks which had risen significantly with the previous nights snow fall. Laughing again, Cassie took cautious steps towards the wolf. I will not hurt you. Can you come out here and show yourself to me? The wolf had the most beautiful brown fur coat she had seen on any creature but the snow that landed made him look funny.

Well he at least got her to laugh, that was something. He watched as she morphed back into a human. She seemed to be stuck in the snow as well as she pried her feet from it to step closer. He squirmed out of his little hole and shook the snow from his face and sat down and tilted his head up to look at her.
He felt his body ripple as he morphed back into his human form, growing up a few inches, but staying in this squatting position. He had no shirt on and only blue sweat pants. "You know...its really cold out." He laughed as he stood up and placed his hands on his hips. "Names Jacob." He smiled at her, trying to be polite. His golden eyes stared at hers. "So where did you learn that trick?" He was half hoping she was like him, he had never met anyone outside his family that could do that.

Regarding the young man cautiously Cassie contemplated on what to say. They did not know each other at all yet she was about to answer his questions. Looking down as if in embarrassment she spoke so that he could hear her. I am an animagus. I learned at a young age how to change my shape into that of another creature. I was hoping to be like my older brother and become a dragon but alas I was gifted with the form of a panther. What about you?
Moving herself from the snow, Cassie wanted nothing more than to get back on solid land. She hated that there were times when the snow would sink all around her, making her get stuck. Cold and wet as it seeped deep within her even to her bones, but what could you do. It was the climate she had been struggling to become accommodated with, it was so different that what she was used to.
