The space had been perfect. Lark had noticed the space the day she had gone into town avoiding the concert. She had contacted the real estate company immediately and set the whole process in motion. A small smile crept across her face as she sipped the cup of coffee and stared out her window. The paperwork sat on her desk along with the keys. She had bought the space and the butterflies hadn’t stopped since she had seen the sign and now they seemed to be going crazy. The whole process had been hard, it involved a lot of human contact and she had to overcome the huge fear of going someplace new where she would meet a group of people she didn’t know. Setting the cup down she had to get going. She was signing the title and she had some work to do on the internal space. Grabbing her purse the paperwork and a light jacket she stepped outside.
The day was absolutely beautiful perfect weather, she was almost sad she would spend the whole day inside with paint and wood and a few contractors to fix up the store. Lark had always wanted to open a kite shop, being so close with the wind she had lots of tips to give those who like to fly competitively or who just want to have a nice time flying a simple box kite. Deciding that not only would she sell kites she had contacted a few book publishers and small organic make-up company as well as other little trinkets. This was going to be her livelihood. Lark had put everything she had into this store and she wanted nothing more than the store to do well. She wasn’t sure what the interest here would be but with a school nearby she imagined they would like it, the grounds were perfect for kite flying. It had been one of the first things she had noticed.
The wind picked up, it seemed to be encouraging her. She had spent the entire evening telling the north winds about her plan. They seemed to like the idea and that of course made her feel much better about the whole thing, she even promised to sell wind chimes. Which reminded her she needed to unpack hers and hang them on the porch. She missed them. She had arrived at the title company and she smiled at the recptionist. “Lark Perrin, I am here to see Mr. Rota, I’m signing the title and deeds today.” She leaned forward her smile wide unable to conceal her excitement. The receptionist just smiled and nodded. Just like magic Mr. Rota appeared from his office, “Miss Perrin right this way we have everything set up for you.” Stepping into the office she smiled at the grand table the white papers had red tabbed markers where she was to sign.
“Just sign and the place is yours.”
With a lovely light blue quill she signed her name and initialed in all the right spots. Kite Tales, the name she had chosen was now hers and hers alone. After shaking his hand and promising to let him know about the grand opening she smiled at the receptionist and left the office. There was an obvious spring in her step as she traveled the two short blocks to her storefront. The contractors were waiting and she smiled at them. Shaking he keys at him in an excited greeting she placed the key in the lock and it clicked. And she opened the door. The paint and other various things for making the display were sitting in the middle of the floor. Once the three contractors had entered she smiled. “I’ll finish the painting, If you guys could hang the shelves once that’s done we can lay the new carpet and bring in the display cases!” They all nodded and got to work.
The light blue paint with the white shelves gave a sky like feel and she was thrilled. It was coming together perfectly. She had selected a light blue carpet as well, to give the illusion of walking on air. Looking around she could hardly believe that this was hers now that she had been able to make a dream a reality. The inventory had been ordered and she just needed to work on the advertising, and maybe she would get to know the other shop owners, they could easily send one another business. The white display cases had been set and she couldn’t wait to get everything in. Smiling she walked out to the storefront the one wind chime she had unpacked she had intended to hang it under the awning. Standing on her tiptoes she hung it and smiled. Yes, this was perfect. Kite Tales would be her baby, this way she wouldn’t worry about the loneliness that would eventually set in. She could never be lonely with so much to do.
