Soft chipping of the birds drifted in from the grounds. Slowly drifting in thru the window, filling the room with the sound. If one heard them you would think that an entire family of birds had built a nest in the room. Of course you would be very sad when you find that no birds actually lived in the small room. Tucked under a large pile of covers, Zoë attempted to hide. Hide from the world and the lovely sound of the birds. Why is it when you have nothing planned to do that you can never sleep? But if your super busy, you can't pull yourself out of bed. That always annoyed her. This was another one of those days. Of all the days she wished that she could just snuggle down into her bed, down further into her covers. Pulling not only the blanket closer but the pillow over her face. None of these would work. There was no chasing of the world away. Reluctantly, Zoë sat up. " Time to get up Zoë" After what seemed like forever, Zoë dragged herself out of her bed. She hadn't any plans, so what was she going to do with her free day. Honestly, she had no clue, but it was something. She would do something, that much she had no doubt in. Standing in front of her closet, Zoë couldn't decide what to wear. The more important question was what would she do. A trip into town sounded good to her. Of course, it was perfect. Shoveling thru rack after rack and then drawer after drawer, she finally chose the OUTFIT. Standing in front of the mirror over her dresser, Zoë ran her fingers thru her long dark blonde hair. What to do with it, humm, down. Yea, that was it. She was up and dressed. Grabbing her jacket, Zoë headed for the door. The day outside was as lovely as it had promised from her room. Moments like this reminded her strongly that she didn't have a roommate. Maybe if she did, she would have someone to hand out with more or take a stroll down into town or something. But it was just her, so she started walking. Town was busy, it was the summer, why did this surprise Zoë. Maybe on some level it didn't really surprise her, the town was always busy. Glancing around, where could she start her day at. Finally deciding on ice cream. That sounded very good at that moment, so The Mystic Malt Shop it was. Entering the shop, Zoë looked around at the few others that we also inside. A few customers at the counter, others sitting around at tables. She waited in line, waiting for her turn at the counter.

Slightly rattled from the encounter with the strange woman he left the store he had used as his escape. He would have to be more careful, this may be a small town but people still recognized him. Or at least this woman claimed to recognize him. He didn’t particularly care however it seemed as if she had her own problems to deal with. Hopefully no one would take her seriously she didn’t seem like the type of person many would listen to, her lack of confidence was a plus. If she couldn’t muster the conviction to sell her emotions then he was fine. He shoved his hands in his pockets and made hi way down main street he had been doing some window shopping before he was bumped into. Keith liked to explore his surroundings, passing the ice cream shop he paused. It certainly sounded good.
Walking through the door it tinkled announcing his arrival and he made his way towards the end of the line, there were lots of little kids and families and he Looked around, it was certainly crowded. People bumped in line behind him and he moved forward bumping into the girl in front of him. He sighed and turned around “Hey pal, watch where you are going.” Shaking his head he turned back around to face the girl. “Sorry about that but crash over here didn’t seem to realize there were people in front of him. He should get those goofy looking glasses updated, jerk.” He muttered the last part under his breath and sighed.

Fiddling with the edge of her purse, Zoë stood waiting in line. Whoever was running this place was slow. Not that she really had anywhere to go she just hated waiting. This wasn't one of her strong suits. What would she order? This wasn't something she had thought about. Glancing at the menu, Zoë thought, so many choices. Her mind buried in thought, far away from her physical self.
The bustle of the shop seemed to fill around Zoë. She tried to stay out of the way but that was a lot easier said than done. Every so often she would step out of the way for a family or person that was to egger to walk around her. The crowd was making her really rethink her plan on an ice cream. Was it really worth all this fuss. She was really having second thoughts.
Just then out of now where someone bumped into her from behind. Zoë let out a deep sigh and turned to see who had bumped into her. As she turned to face the bumper, she could tell he was none too happy about being bumped himself. There seemed to be many impatient people in the small shop today.
The stranger turned to face Zoë. His comment made her smile and then laugh. Crash. Now that was a name for someone. She looked around the stranger toward the guy who had ran into him. "One just has to love people who bump into others without regard for the space they were in.. Turning to the stranger, Zoë smiled, "Oh. Don't worry. It's ok." At least this guy wasn't as rude as the other.

The man ho had bumped him gave an annoyed grunt at Keith’s words and he simply smiled. If he wasn’t gong to pay attention he should expect others to be a little annoyed when he crashed into them. With a small passive aggressive step backwards he bumped the man n the glasses and smiled. It had made him feel better, he was always doing small things that eventually paid off for him in the long run. The man gave Keith a pointed stare and he laughed in his face. He should watch himself better from now on. The young woman in front of him seemed just as annoyed and Keith nodded at her and waited. There were far too many people in the shop and only one or two people behind the counter, he almost felt sorry for the poor teenagers behind the counter. The line kept moving, slowly at first and then it started to speed up.
Deciding the bumper should pay he grabbed the man by the elbow and motioned toward him the young girl and himself. “He’s got us both covered. An apology of sorts, so get whatever you want.” He chuckled and the man seemed blindsided and shook his head yes, probably too afraid of what Keth would do f he backed down now. “As for me I’ll just take a double scoop of chocolate ice cream.” Nodding he flashed a smile at the girl.

The smile that had made its way to her face, seemed to stick. Zoë couldn't help but laugh a little at clumsiness of some people. She was use to her being clumsy. But not others. She was always the person who would trip or run into people. Here she stood looking back at the crowd and on to the man who had been the one who had bumped into her.
Turning back toward the board, Zoë put her attention on what she was going to order. Of course she still had no idea. Just as she decided the guy behind her pulled Crash in front of him explaining that he was buying. "Sounds like a winner to me" This made Zoë's smile widen.
The look on Crash's was priceless and it brought a laugh from Zoë. "Now the one time I don't have a camera I see a face that is priceless." She couldn't help but point back at the guy. "Now that is priceless and way to funny." Finally she just shook her head and turned back to the girl behind the counter. "I'll take a double scoop of mint chocolate chip please." Zoë found herself turning to look back at the other guy and returned his smile.

With a wink he nodded. “I figure it’s only fair.” He patted the man on the back and smiled as he stupidly took the money from his wallet and paid for the three of their selections. “Thanks buddy.” He patted the man on the back one more time and smiled back at the girl. He looked at the mint chocolate chip and shook his head. “I never got the point of pairing mint with chocolate; it’s too much flavor wise.” With a sigh he shrugged. “It’s too sweet, anyway makes me sick. But it’s whatever floats your boat princess.”
Taking a bite of his chocolate he maneuvered to a booth. He wasn’t sure if he was giving the girl an invitation to join him with his musings or if he was simply making conversation. Keith had found himself feeling rather alone since the one person he knew in town outside of work had mysteriously disappeared. Though he figured it had something to do with business. It was odd to look for companionship for companionship’s sake. At thirty five he had share of women and odd flings but he wanted something else now, it was strange to want to just have friends and he figured it had something to do with the fact he missed his sisters. They were getting married and starting families and he had no one.
The girl was of course nowhere close to the age one would consider appropriate for the man but today he was more concerned about the conversation and not feeling alone. Then again who desired to live their life totally alone, even the hermits had families that would visit from time to time. Putting his feet up on the opposite booth he leaned back taking another bite he looked back to where he had left the girl and made a come and sit motion with his head.
